OREANDA-NEWS. July 02, 2012. Mostotrest has been awarded a contract for reconstruction, maintenance and rehabilitation of a bridge crossing over the Don River. The project is located in Aksai, Rostov Region, at km 1061 – km 569 (left side) of M-4 Don Highway, which links Moscow with Novorossiysk via Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don and Krasnodar.

Avtodor State Company will act as the client under the contract. Avtodor’s supervisory board has approved the contract award.

The total value of the contract is RUB2.94 billion (including VAT). Preparatory stages and reconstruction are scheduled for completion in September 2014 with post-construction maintenance until July 2029.

There are two parallel bridges over the Don River in the area of construction on the southwestern outskirts of Aksai, both of which are transport elements of M-4 Don Highway. Originally built in 1964, the left bridge to be reconstructed is currently in poor condition and does not meet modern requirements for permanent structures. The main purpose of reconstruction is to expand the capacity of the bridge, taking into account the existing and projected traffic, and split transit and local traffic, while maintaining all transport links within the areas adjacent to or making part of the area of construction.

The reconstruction project includes complete disassembly of the existing structures of the left Aksai Bridge and construction in its place of a modern bridge. In accordance with the approved design documents, the total length of the new bridge crossing will be 1,227.7 m, including a three-lane one-way bridge with the length of 567.11 m. In accordance with the contract, the reconstruction will be carried out in two stages: Mostotrest will remove the old bridge structures and erect a new bridge, which together with its accesses will become part of M-4 Don Highway. At the same time, the reconstructed section will connect the city with the suburban public recreation areas. The road category – sectoral highway with continuous traffic – has been determined taking into account the location of the project in a suburban area of Rostov-on-Don. Design speed for the area is 100 km/h.

To ensure high consumer properties of the project, design solutions are based on construction materials, which have proved their efficiency in both domestic and foreign road and bridge construction. One of the main objectives of raising the technical level of the bridge, its safety and trouble-free operation is to bring the quality of the deck in line with the world standards.

During the reconstruction period traffic will be directed through the right Aksai Bridge, built in 1995.
