Moldova Reduced Wine Exports, but Increased Profits
OREANDA-NEWS.July 03, 2012. Moldova exported over 24 million liters of wines in the first quarter of 2012, which is 2.6 million less than in the analogous period of 2011. At the same time, a total return on wine exports made USD 26.9 million against USD 26.5 million one year prior.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, a greater part of wines was supplied to the Commonwealth of Independent States member countries – 18 million liters (down 4.32 million).
Supplies to the Russian Federation halved – to 8.9 million liters. In the list of the largest Moldovan wines consumers, Belarus ranked second with 6.84 million liters, and Ukraine with 2.82 million liters.
In the 1Q2012, Moldova exported 3.22 million liters of wines to the European Union countries, in comparison with 2.95 million in January-March 2011. A greater part was supplied to Poland (1.08 million liters), to the Czech Republic (810.8 thousand) and Romania (581 thousand).
Moldovan wines exports to Georgia went up 13 times – to 1.38 million from 0.105 million. Supplies to China grew by 30 thousand liters, to 159 thousand.
Wines imports to Moldova dropped about a half over the year, to 108 thousand liters; and to USD 238.4 thousand from USD 395.2 thousand in money terms. A greater part of wines imported were bought from Bulgaria (42 thousand liters). Wines in small amounts were bought from Italy, France and the U.S.
