OREANDA-NEWS. June 27, 2012. The Siberian Coal and Energy Company and the Research institute of Khakasia's agrarian problems continue to implement an effective land reclamation program.

This May saw the launching of the next stage - at the rest field of Chernogorsky open-pit mine the specialists planted for the first time coniferous trees: pines and cedars. As of today some five hectares have been reclamated.

- The return of our disturbed lands into Khakasia's eco-system due to the new method of reclamation takes place faster and more effectively than with the use of traditional methods, - noted Alexei Kilin, the executive director of SUEK-Khakasia Ltd. - Positive result declares itself. For five years of our cooperation with the Research institute of Khakasia's agrarian problems a huge work has been carried out. Chernogorsky open-pit mine's experience has been already borrowed by other Khakasia's coal enterprises that are within the sphere of SUEK's responsibility. We work with different scientific organizations and we can be competitive only if we rely on science.

For the month elapsed since the seedlings were planted the pines had sprouted 5-10 centimetres. Young cedars have perfectly established. In 2012 it is planned to reclamate 50 hectares of land at Chernogorsky open-pit mine. Reclamation takes place according to the complicated planting system, that is priority is given not to monocultures, but to mixed plantation: coniferous and deciduous trees, bushes and perennial grasses.
