OREANDA-NEWS. June 19, 2012. The Fuel Pilferage Prevention System designed and implemented by CMC, which helps Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) deter fuel theft and adulteration has won the eWorld 2012 Jury Choice award for Best use of ICT for Public Sector Units.

The eWorld 2012 awards recognise excellence in adoption of technology in the processes of governance, thereby showcasing noteworthy innovations. The winners were announced at the eWorld Forum held on June 15-16, 2012, in New Delhi.

The distinguished jury said in citation of the award, “The solution developed by CMC for IOCL enables delivery of better quality petroleum products to retail customers on a national level. Pilferages and adulteration of fuel comes under control through the tamper proof solution. The project went live on April 1, 2011. As of date, with its secure web-enabled portal, CMC has enabled IOCL to track in real-time the movement of close to 20,000 tanker trucks plying across the length and breadth of India.”

The project was envisaged in 2006-2007 by IOCL, and CMC won the project against global competitive bidding. Speaking on the occasion of the award, R. Ramanan, MD and CEO, CMC, said, “This was a critical project for CMC which established its leadership in design and implementation of complex nationwide Vehicle Tracking Solutions (VTS). It has enabled IOCL to deter unscrupulous elements engaged in pilferage and adulteration of transportation fuels. The eWorld 2012 award is recognition of the innovative engineering solutions provided by CMC to meet complex demands of the transportation and logistics sector.”

Pilferage, hijacking and adulteration of deliveries from petrol tankers, terminals and refineries have been a national concern of highest priority. The VTS system implemented by CMC enables real-time tracking and command control of these vehicles, and makes it a critical project with considerable impact both on the security as well as utilisation of the vehicles and their contents.
