OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2012. A new-generation technology train was presented in Sochi. A high-speed train “Lastochka” (“Swallow”) made a trip from Sochi train station to Adler train station for the first time.

Leaders of OJSC "RZD", representatives of RF Government, and journalists became the first passengers of the train.

The train was produced in Germany, was certificated in St. Petersburg, and after that delivered to the Olympic capital. "Lastochka" consists of five carriages. The modern train is able to drive at full speed up to 160 km/h. It can be operated at temperatures from +40 to -40 degrees considering maritime climate. According to the railroad specialists, this type of carriages is environmentally friendly. Thanks to the lightweight construction, energy consumption is reduced. In addition, the  "Lastochka" rides with almost no noise, and does not disturb the residents of nearby settlements.

By the Olympics 2014 the city will get several trains that will transport participants and guests of the Winter Games. "Lastochka" will "fly" on a rail "corridor" of 48 kilometers length. The main Olympic highway will connect the Olympic park and the ski slopes. The trip from Adler to Krasnaya Polyana will take 25-30 minutes.
