OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2012. An SCO business forum has taken place in Beijing. The event initiated by the Chinese side was organized by the PRC Ministry of Commerce and held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

The forum centered on the deepening of regional economic cooperation and the determination of new development options.

Four sessions of the forum discussed the following subjects:

Direct investments as an incentive of regional economic cooperation; diversification of investments in industries;

Resources and energy – a search for new mutually beneficial forms of cooperation

High-tech innovations: an inner trend of development model transformation in the Eurasian region;

The Internet – a new locomotive force of regional economic cooperation.

The Russian business delegation led by CCI of Russia President Sergey Katyrin had over 60 members, among them heads and representatives of the Skolkovo Foundation, the Basic Element company, the Renova Group, the Business Russia organization, the Eurasian Development Bank and Vnesheconombank and heads of chambers of commerce and industry of Chelyabinsk, Moscow and Chita. The Russia-China and Russia-Kyrgyzstan Business Councils send more than 20 delegates to Beijing. The delegation also included representatives of the Russia-China Chamber for Assisting Trade in Machines and Innovative Products, the Russia-China Economic and Investment Cooperation Center formed by Igor Rogachev – the ambassador of Russia-China friendship, and the SCO Business Council. 

Sergey Katyrin highlighted a number of factors, which are important, in the opinion of the CCI of Russia, for the use of competitive advantages of industries, regions and enterprises of Russia and SCO member countries. In his words, the interaction with chambers of commerce and industry and other partner organizations in the attraction of innovators from SCO member states to the establishment of innovative centers, special economic zones and high-tech techno-parks creates new possibilities for the development of business of Russian and SCO companies provided by the key integration project – the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan and the Common Economic Space. This is the question of the account of the specifics of new phenomena in global cluster processes; the formation of trans-border clusters in the sphere of education, science and innovations and the introduction of public-private partnership principles, which, in the opinion of the Chamber, should apply to all economic and social segments. The Russian delegation head underlined the activity of business councils on the SCO space, whose efficiency is confirmed with the constantly growing scales of fulfilled projects, and the CCI of Russia Committee for Economic Integration of SCO and CIS Countries.

Other speakers at the forum were En+ Group General Director Artyom Volynets and JSC RVK Chief Portfolio Manager Mikhail Tsygankov.

The CCI of Russia assisted by the SCO Business Council planned presentations and negotiations of the Russian delegation at the PRC Ministry of Commerce. LLC Daozon General Director Alexander Khanykov will make a report, “Russian b2b portal Daozon – A Door between Russian Buyers and Chinese Suppliers”, and President of the CCI of the Trans-Baikal Territory Sergey Malyshev will present the project, “Construction of the International Convention and Exhibition Complex in Chita.”

The participation in sessions of representatives of business communities of SCO member states, observer states and partners (in all, 24 countries) allowed to discuss a broad range of issues related to the central item of the forum agenda and to draft action plans for 2012 -2013 and the consequent period.
