Ukraine, Lebanon to Cooperate in Agricultural Sector
OREANDA-NEWS. June 14, 2012. Ukraine and Lebanon have good prospects for cooperation in the agricultural sector, particularly in the supplies to the Republic of Lebanon of Ukrainian grain crops. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said this during a meeting with Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Lebanon Gebran Bassil, which was held in Kyiv.
According to Mykola Azarov, for the last 7 months, Ukraine exported to various countries over 21 million tons of grain. "Lebanese business also could get benefit from this because, mainly these supplies were in Arab countries - Mykola Azarov said. But he added that in the current marketing year, our state is to export at least 21-22 million tons of grain "may be even more, because we planted more corn, and weather conditions for this crop are very favorable and we expect a good harvest of corn".
PM noted that cooperation in the agricultural sector is beneficial, because world markets are expected lack of grain.
Mykola Azarov reminded the Lebanese delegation that during his recent visit to Lebanon was to implement a long-term project construction in the Lebanese port of regional grain terminal.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine emphasized the importance of implementation by the parties of the bilateral agreements on investment projects. "I wish these projects would have been implemented. We are ready to exert maximum efforts for their realization" - Mykola Azarov said.
The Head of Ukrainian Government noted that it is a matter, in particular, on cooperation in the energy sector: construction of small power plants and hydropower units, projects in renewable electricity, supply in Lebanon Ukrainian turbines, transformers and more.
In turn Gebran Bassil said that Lebanon is interested to develop cooperation with Ukraine in many ways, including in mentioned by Mykola Azarov ways. He said that Lebanon imports a lot of grain, especially wheat. "Procurement of wheat is supported by the state. The private sector could actively participate in this issue"- he added.
