OREANDA-NEWS. June 13, 2012. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, within the last 12 months, from May, 2011 till May, 2012, the Consumer Price Index increased 4,1%. Inflation made up 0,6% in May, 2011, reaching 4,9% within the first four months of the year and 7% within May, 2010-May, 2011.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in May, 2012 prices for foods went 0,9% down, prices for nonfoods went 0,1% up; tariffs for services increased 1%. In May,2012 the greatest increase was registered in prices for garlic and the fresh fruit which grew 5,1% and 3,3% respectively. The citrus fruit went up 5,4%, the exotic fruit increased 3,1% in prices, apples went up 1,9%. The price grew 2,1% for mutton, 1,7% for pork, grapes for 1,6%, carrots for 0,7%, sugar for 0,5%, strong beverages for 0,3%.

At the same time, in May, 2012 prices decreased 20% for eggs, 9,9% for potatoes, 4,2% for fresh vegetables. In particular, they went down 8,7% for cucumbers, 7,1% for cabbages, 6,7% for onions, 2,4% for tomatoes, 1,8% for mushrooms and 1% for sugar beet. Prices also declined 1,8% for stone fruits, 1% for cottage cheese, 0,7% for full cream milk and cheese each and 0,4% for sunflower oil. Among nonfoods, in May, 2012 the greatest increase in prices was registered for children cloths which went up 0,5%.

In particular, children dresses went up 2,7%, prices for blouses increased 1,7%, and prices for T-shirts grew 0,8%. Prices grew 1% for swimsuits, 0,4% for women sandals and 0,35 for children sandals and other kinds of children foot wear. Cigarettes went up 2,3%.

Among services, in May, 2012 the biggest growth in prices was registered for utilities tariffs which made up 1,9%. Power grew 4,7%, potable water supplies in Ungheni grew 3,9%, with expenses on culture and sport increasing 1,2%. Earlier NBM kept its forecast of inflation for 2012 at 4,9%. Inflation made up 7,8% in 2011 in Moldova.
