OREANDA-NEWS. June 7, 2012. On 30 May 2012, the information meeting on “Inflation: key aspects” for mass media representatives took place at the National Bank of Ukraine.

During the information meeting the journalists were informed about the topical issues and key determinants of inflation (presentation on “Inflation: key aspects”), in particular:

1.                  What methodological issues arise when calculating inflation?

2.                  What are the main price indices and what are their peculiarities?

3.                  Why is high inflation (deflation) harmful to the economy?

4.                  How does inflation affect price competiveness?

5.                  What are the key features of different stances of the monetary policy pursued by central banks?

6.                  Which indicators do the central banks take into account when pursuing the monetary policy (other than consumer inflation)?

7.                  How can the impact of demand-side (supply-side) factors on inflation be assessed?

8.                  Why is it difficult for the National Bank of Ukraine to address inflation by using the monetary instruments?

9.                  How significant is dependency of Ukraine’s inflation on global price movements?

10.                What is the difference between inflation targets and inflation outlook? Why might they diverge?
