Russian Railways Ships 109.3 mln Tons of Freight in May 2012
OREANDA-NEWS. June 06, 2012. According to the latest figures, Russian Railways shipped 109.3 million tons of freight on its network in May 2012, an increase of 2.9% on the figure in May 2011.
Freight turnover in May 2012 increased by 3.9% compared to May 2011 to 187.8 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs increased by 2.2% on last May and amounted to 235 billion ton-kilometres.
According to the latest figures, shipping volumes in January-May 2012 totalled 522.2 million tons, which is 3.6% more compared to the same period in 2011.
In January-May 2012, the railways shipped the following goods. Figures in brackets show the change compared to January-May 2011:
coal - 127.7 million tons (+3.6%);
coke - 5.3 million tons (-3.2%);
oil and petroleum products - 108.1 million tons (+2.9%);
iron and manganese ores - 44.6 million tons (-1.1%);
ferrous metals - 31.8 million tons (+1.3%);
ferrous metal scrap - 6.7 million tons (-9.6%);
chemical and mineral fertilisers - 19.5 million tons (-2.8%);
cement - 13.1 million tons (+7%);
timber - 16.1 million tons (-9.8%);
grain and milling products - 9 million tons (+39.9%);
construction materials - 69.5 million tons (+19.3%);
non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock - 9.4 million tons (-7.6%);
chemicals and soda - 11.9 million tons (-4.3%);
industrial raw materials and moulded materials - 13.2 million tons (+9.8%).
Freight turnover since the beginning of 2012 amounted to 924.8 billion tariff ton-kilometres, up 6.2% on the first five months of 2011. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs was 1,166.2 billion ton-kilometres (+5.3%).
