Severstal Developed New Steel Grades for Kamaz
OREANDA-NEWS. June 04, 2012. Severstal, one of the world’s leading steel and steel related mining companies, developed and got approvals for technical standards related to new steel grades, and organized experimental deliveries of product to OAO Kamaz.
The new steel S500МС is identical to Sweden's high-quality steel DOMEX-500, while the price of the new grade manufactured by the Cherepovets Steel Mill (part of the Severstal Russian Steel division) is markedly lower than the Swedish equivalent. Furthermore, the unparalleled brand-new steel grade DP600 was developed for OAO Kamaz. The new grade is a high-strength metal. Lesser per-vehicle amounts of this grade are required, as component parts are made thinner, while high malleability ensures good formability of otherwise tough-to-shape component parts.
Today, the company is streamlining the technology for similar grades to be supplied to Eurodisk factories making Volkswagen and Renault wheel rims.
The new promising grades of rolled metal products are being developed and implemented as part of the joint Severstal-Kamaz program to be carried out in 2012-2013.
The action plan executed by OAO Severstal so as to improve the mechanical properties and purity of metal has ensured formability of sophisticatedly shaped component parts of KAMAZ motor vehicle chassis frames.
