OREANDA-NEWS. June 1, 2012. Ingosstrakh Insurance Company becomes the official sponsor of the exhibition "The Bases of Graphics: Paper and Wood, Silk and Glass" held within the framework of the program "The Tretyakov Gallery opens the storages".

According to the exhibitors, ‘bases’ is the most accurate term to reveal the role of materials in the process of creative image building. The base is a kind of a tuning fork tuning the artist for a definite artistic manner. The base selection to a large extent determines the way an artist puts lines and brush strokes onto the canvas – their tempo, rhythm, energy, density... The history and properties of materials, their role in creative image building are little-known to the public, and are, as a rule, beyond the specialists' close attention. A graphic work of art traditionally means the works on paper. However, the range of ‘graphic bases’ is much wider: parchment, bone, various fabrics, glass, wood. Even paper used for works of graphics has a number of types by formation, texture, color, level and nature of preparation (pre-coated, tinted, papier-pelle). The goal of the exhibition is to familiarize the visitors with the variety of the materials used as graphic bases, show them the best and most unique exponents of the Tratyakov Gallery collection.

The exposition includes about 150 works of art of the Russian artists of the 18th – early 20th centuries.

The exhibition will be open in the State Tretyakov Gallery at: 10, Lavrushinsky Lane, halls 49—54. Everyone interested may attend it from May 30 to October 7, 2012.
