OREANDA-NEWS. May 31, 2012. From 16 to 19 May, the United Metallurgical Company (OMK) held ‘OMK Railway Wheels’, an international research and marketing conference, in Turkey. Over 80 developers, designers, dealers and operators of OMK wheels from Russia and 20 other countries took part in the event. The participants included wheel developers from OMK’s engineering and process centre, representatives of major railway vehicle building and repair businesses, research institutes such as VNIKTI (Scientific Research and Design Technology Institute of Rolling Stock), ARRRI (Railway Research Institute) and FPK (Federal Passenger Company).

‘This conference is a first similar initiative of the company’, noted Nikolay Zaytsev, OMK Sales Director. ‘It is distinctive in that market players show huge interest in new wheel solutions by Vyksa Metallurgical Works. Particular attention has paid to solutions for passenger cars and underway railways.’

Participants discussed such industry-important issues as the need to implement wheel lifecycle monitoring; the growing market demand for rolled products of the Casting and Rolling Facility and Mill-5000 Metallurgical Facility.

A total of 15 reports were presented at the conference. Participants hope that such conferences will be held on an annual basis.
