Sita Stats Confirm Ryanair Is No 1 with Fewest Lost Bags
OREANDA-NEWS. May 29, 2012. Ryanair, Europe’s only ultra low cost airline, today (29 May) welcomed independent statistics which again prove it loses far fewer bags than any other airline. The SITA World Tracer Statistics for 2011 showed a worldwide average of 9 misplaced bags per 1,000 passengers. However, Ryanair misplaces less than 0.5 bags per 1,000 passengers, compared to high cost flag carriers BA, which loses over 16 bags per 1,000 passengers, while Aer Lingus loses so many bags it refuses to publish its stats.
SITA World Tracer, which is used by 450 airlines worldwide, found that many European airlines are very careless with passenger bags. 53% of all lost baggage was a result of mishandled transfers by high cost flag carrying airlines – a statistic which is continuing to grow rapidly – providing yet another reason for passengers to choose one of Ryanair’s 1,500 low cost point-to-point routes.
Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said:
“Ryanair continues to provide Europe’s best customer service as our unbeatable combination of the lowest fares, fewest lost bags and fewest cancellations ensure that passengers keep switching to Ryanair. The publication of the 2011 SITA World Tracer statistics proves that Ryanair is the industry leader in Europe when it comes to ensuring your bags arrive with you, with less than 0.5 misplaced bags per 1,000 passengers.
That’s compared to an industry average of 9 bags per 1,000 passengers and over 16 bags per 1,000 passengers at careless BA, while Aer Lingus’ baggage stats are so bad they won’t publish them. When it comes to being No1 for customer service, Ryanair has it in the bag.”
