OREANDA-NEWS. May 29, 2012. The V Astana Economic forum has started its work in Astana.

In order to implement the Presidents initiative on creation of the Eurasian Economic club of Scientists, the Ministry of Economy and Budget Planning of the Republic of Kazakhstan in cooperation with the Institute of Economic Research founded the "Eurasian Economic club of Scientists" Association on June 27th of 2008. Within the framework of its opening, the very first Astana Economic Forum themed as "Modern Aspects of Economic Development under the Conditions of Globalization" took place. Politicians, economists, businessmen and scientists from 40 countries took part in it. In 2009, II Astana Economic Forum was held and this time the main topic was "Economic Security in Eurasia in the System of Global Risks". Delegates from 59 countries arrived in Astana. In 2010 the III AEF "Sustainable Economic Growth in Post-Crisis Period" and in 2011 IV AEF "New Decade: Challenges and Perspectives" were held.

The program of the  V Astana Economic forum includes more than 40 events of different formats with participation of over 6500 delegates from 85 countries. The major events are: grand opening of V AEF with participation of N.A. Nazarbayev – the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Global Energy-Ecological forum "Energy-Ecological Initiatives of Kazakhstan".

Among the participants and guests of the Forum are representatives of the science, business, government officials, and international experts from all over the world: Francis Gurry – Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, Min Zhu – Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Sha Zukang – United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs and Nobel Prize winning economists.

The round table "Model of strategic planning for the transition to a sustainable economy" was held within the V AEF with support of UNDP, Higher Party School of PDP "Nur Otan", Global Green Growth Institute, Economic Research Institute JSC, NESDCA.

"As much as we all fear higher energy prices, the simple fact is that the only way to change the behavior of all 7 billion of us, to encourage energy conservation and investments in renewable, is by changing the price of energy", - said Stephen Tull, UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Representative in Kazakhstan.

The main outcome of the Forum will traditionally be an Open letter to the Governments with recommendations for improvement and development of the world economy, which will be directed to organizational committees of G-8 and G-20, UNO, International Monetary Fund, World Bank and Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
