First String of Bovanenkovo-Ukhta Linepipe Welded up
OREANDA-NEWS. May 25, 2012. The Gazprom Management Committee took notice of the information about the status of the Bovanenkovo field pre-development on the Yamal Peninsula as well as the Bovanenkovo – Ukhta gas trunkline system (GTS) construction.
By now, 131 pre-development facilities have been put onstream at the Bovanenkovo field including the utility, power supply, transportation infrastructure and industrial bases. It is projected to commission another 83 pre-development facilities before the end of 2012. Drilling of production wells is underway – the total of 261 wells have been drilled, downhole equipment has been placed into 213 wells.
Welding and installation operations have been finished at the first string of the Bovanenkovo – Ukhta GTS linepipe stretching for some 1,240 kilometers. At the moment, pneumatic testing of the gas pipeline is in progress; the tested sections are being dehydrated and filled with nitrogen.
The Baidaratskaya main compressor station is being prepared for gas supplies.
Construction work goes on at eight compressor stations: Yarynskaya, Gagaratskaya, Vorkutinskaya, Usinskaya, Intinskaya, Syninskaya, Chikshinskaya and Maloperanskaya. It is projected to commission these compressor stations between 2012 and 2013.
It was highlighted that gas production from the Bovanenkovo field would start in June 2012.
Background
The Yamal Peninsula is a region of Gazprom's strategic interests. Commercial development of Yamal's fields will increase local gas production to 310–360 billion cubic meters per annum by 2030. Accessing Yamal is very important for ensuring domestic gas production growth.
32 fields were discovered in the Yamal Peninsula and the adjacent offshore areas with aggregate A+B+C1+C2 reserves and C3 resources reaching 26.5 trillion cubic meters of gas and some 1.64 billion tons of oil and condensate. The Bovanenkovo field is the most significant one on the Yamal Peninsula as its A+B+C1+C2 gas reserves amount to 4.9 trillion cubic meters.
In December 2008 Gazprom commenced practical implementation of the Yamal megaproject. The Company started the operations aimed at the Bovanenkovo field development and the Bovanenkovo – Ukhta GTS construction. Projected gas production from the Bovanenkovo field is estimated at 115 billion cubic meters per annum to be increased to 140 billion cubic meters in the long term.
In November 2011 the Gazprom Management Committee resolved to feed the first Yamal gas into the Unified Gas Supply System ahead of schedule – in June 2012. Previously, it had been planned to launch the Yamal gas production in the third quarter of 2012.
