Baosteel high performance mechanical structural steel and its key technology Research & Development has breakthrough, successful trial of 100kg class easy welding ultra high strength steel Q890CFD and 120kg class easy welding ultra high strength steel BWELDY1100QL2. These two kinds of steel are the first successful development, and will play an important role for realization of high strength and lightweight of domestic coal machinery.

In recent years, coal and metal ore mining projects develop vigorously mining, lifting and washing equipments, and focus on realization of homemade for electric haulage coal cutter, hydraulic support and other equipments. The demand of high strength steel and abrasion resistant steel continues to grow, and toward to development in direction of large mining height, ultra strong support, lightweight decrease.

In order to better serve for technological progress of our national construction machinery, coal mining machinery and port machinery, and to meet requirements of market development, in recent years, Baosteel exerts advantage on equipments, R &D and service, develop actively the strategic cooperation with customers, establish four sides cooperative relations on structure design, steel grade R & D, manufacture and service operation. The ability on R & D and manufacture of Baosteel was recognized by the customers.

This year, for Shenhua 7m ultra mining height hydraulic support project, Baosteel Heavy Plate Department, Manufacture Department, Iron Making Department and Research Institute composed R & D team and actively involved, developed trial on 100kg class easy welding ultra high strength steel Q890CFD. Baosteel has developed successively ultra high strength steel TMCP shape control plan, implementation of consistent technology and process optimization of high manganese low carbon steel continuous casting, carried out laboratory research, process design, customer engineering research, and technical attack of key technology such as alloy design, welding process and etc. Baosteel test successfully on easy welding ultra high strength steel Q890CFD, and its performance fully meet customer’s requirements. It is reported that this kind of steel could replace Q690CFD, and equipment weight is expected to loss 15%.

In recent years, construction machinery manufacturing industry has strong demand on high strength and lightweight of large equipments. Sany Heavy Industry, Zoomlion Heavy Industry, XCMG and other machinery industry leading enterprises has supposed the idea to using 120kg class ultra high strength steel to enhance their products performance. For this reason, Baosteel has cooperated closely with the customer and developed two specifications of 120kg class easy welding ultra high strength steel whose performance indicators are equivalent with foreign similar products.
