OREANDA-NEWS. May 18, 2012. Nordea and Sampo banks are convinced that their joint ATM-network has already demonstrated its efficiency, quality and security. In Lithuania, 5 banks are participating in the joint network, reported the press-centre of Nordea.

The feasibility study of a Pan-Baltic ATM-network and our 5-year experience of operating one tell us clearly that merging ATM-networks is beneficial both to customers and banks, as it increases cash availability and network efficiency. At present, two important market participants – Swedbank and SEB – have unfortunately suspended their participation in the common Pan-Baltic ATM-network project.

Nordea and Sampo banks will continue developing their joint Pan-Baltic ATM-network and remain open to any Baltic operator wishing to join it. The banks are convinced that cooperation helps to manage the costs better and offer customers high-quality, accessible and secure service.

In Estonia and Latvia, the joint network is operated by Nordea and Sampo; in Lithuania also Sialiu Bankas, UKIO and Citadele banks participate. In the three countries, a total of 480 ATMs belong to the joint Network – 100 in Estonia, 112 in Latvia and 268 in Lithuania.

The technology used is constantly updated and new services developed in cooperation with the service provider. The latest development included fitting all outdoors ATMs in Estonia with external anti-skimming devices at the end of last year. The devices that have been fitted on a number of ATMs already since 2008, have fulfilled their purpose and no skimming has occurred in the ATMs in question.
