Airlines Offer to Assist Dept of Transport
OREANDA-NEWS. May 17, 2012. Ryanair, Ireland’s largest airline, today (17 May) confirmed that it and other Irish airlines at yesterday’s National Aviation Security Committee (NASC) meeting in Dublin, offered to assist the D.O.T. rectify the, as yet unspecified, security audit failures at Dublin Airport by providing the Dept with additional security auditors to speed up the resolution of the issues.
The airlines made the offer to the D.O.T. after it was confirmed to them that all aircraft departing Dublin Airport will now be subject to additional security checks on arrival at destination airports for up to 2 months, running into the busy summer peak travel period.
Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said
“The Irish airlines still don’t know what specific security audit failures occurred at Dublin Airport but we’ve offered to help the DOT speed up addressing these audit issues by providing additional security auditors to the D.O.T in order to reduce the flight and passenger disruption from two months to hopefully as little as two weeks.
The airlines are awaiting the D.O.T.’s response to this offer, which we expect today or tomorrow.”
