OREANDA-NEWS. May 17, 2012. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has urged the EU to more actively promote Ukraine's efforts to energy independence obtaining and alternative energy supplies providing. PM announced this during the 15th Ukraine-EU Cooperation Council meeting in Brussels.

"We would like to see a more active EU stance towards Ukraine, as a member of the European Energy Charter," said Mykola Azarov.

Prime Minister noted Ukraine has acceded to the European Energy Charter, as well as fulfills all its obligations within its framework and has already taken steps to implement this document. As a member of the Charter, said Mykola Azarov, our state expects a more active EU support of its efforts.

In addition, PM pointed out Ukraine within more than two years ensures uninterrupted supplies of Russian gas to Europe, while the transit rate in twice smaller than the average European. In other words, emphasized Mykola Azarov, Ukraine does this work in good faith, but at a loss for itself, thus providing reducing prices for Europe. That is why Ukraine would like to see the relevant steps of the EU towards energy sector.
