OREANDA-NEWS. May 11, 2012. Dmytro Kiva, President - General Designer of ANTONOV Company, has been elected as an academician of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NASU), department of mechanics, speciality - aircraft construction. He became the first academician on this speciality in Ukraine. In such a way academicians of NASU awarded considerable achievements of D.Kiva in development of aviation science and industry.

A candidature of corresponding member of NASU, doctor of technician sciences D.Kiva was represented by scientific and technical council of ANTONOV Company. Managers of more than 30 scientific, research institutions including: Institute of Electric Welding of NASU, Institute of Technical Mechanics of NASU, Institute of Mechanics of NASU, Institute of Geotechnical Mechanics of NASU, Cybernetic Centre of NASU, Institute of Strength Problems of NASU, Institute of Problems of Materials Science of NASU, Physical-Mechanical Institute of NASU, Institute of Hydromechanics of NASU, Ukrainian Research Institute of Aviation Technologies, Central Aerohydrodynamics Institute named after N.E.Zhukovsky (Russian Federation), Flight Research Institute named after M.M.Gromov (RF), Research Institute of Aviation Technologies (RF), Central Institute of Aviation Motor Building named after P.I.Baranov (RF), State Research Institute of Civil Aviation (RF) submitted their reviews of Mr.Kiva's scientific activities. A considerable contribution of Dmytro Kiva as a scientist into methodology and practice of design of new aircraft, their certification, provision of safety of flights and airworthiness support, development of new methods of researches of aerodynamics and strength was mentioned in them.

Development of a scientific base and conduction of research works of ANTONOV Company headed by Dmytro Kiva and institutions of NASU is an integral part of modern aircraft construction. It provides a high competitive level of ANTONOV's aircraft in the world market. This fruitful cooperation is carried out in accordance with the "General agreement about scientific and technical cooperation in a sphere of aviation between NASU and ANTONOV". During resent years, a number of practical works directed both on creation of new aircraft and support of the existing "ANs" was done. The results of many joint scientific works were implemented in constructions of the AN-148/158 new regional passenger aircraft, the AN-70 STOL transport, modernized versions of the AN-124 heavy transport.

Congratulating Dmytro Kiva with election, Boris Paton, President of NASU, academician of NASU, noted: "I hope, your fruitful work and active civil position will add considerable energy to the scientific search, assist to increase of the authority of the national Academy of Sciences as an important public institution of our state".
