Ukraine Allocates Additional Resources to Reduce Environmental Damage
OREANDA-NEWS. May 10, 2012. The Government will allocate additional resources to reduce environmental damage. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said this during a session of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, stating that on May 5 in Ukraine celebrates the Day of the environment.
Mykola Azarov noted that the environmental situation in Ukraine has been and remains difficult.
Despite the fact that we still have not recovered the volume of industrial production of 1990 year, anthropogenic and technogenic load on the environment is in several times higher than those indicators is in developed countries. Unfortunately, there are fewer possibilities to invest in the environment in Ukraine.
However, the situation continues to worsen, because "due to a one side gas contract we are obliged to transfer power units from gas to coal".
"This is an additional burden on the environment. Therefore it is necessary additional efforts and resources spent on reducing harm to the environment", - said Mykola Azarov.
He added that rapid economic development, "which we plan to provide, on the one hand, an increase of pressure on the environment, on the other - will give more resources to protect and restore the environment."
"Therefore, the task of the Government - to ensure a reasonable balance between economic growth and environmental safety and also to create conditions for environmental mode of economic growth".
