OREANDA-NEWS. May 10, 2012. According to the latest figures, the Russian Railways network shipped 106.4 million tons of freight in April 2012, an increase of 2.9% on April 2011, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.  

Freight turnover in April 2012 increased compared to April 2011 by 4% to 183.5 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs rose in April 2012 by 2.4% to 230.6 billion ton-kilometres.

Shipping volumes in January-April 2012, according to the latest figures, totalled 412.9 million tons, up 3.8% over the same period in 2011. The following amounts of freight were shipped:

coal - 102.9 million tons (+3.5% compared to January-April 2011)

coke - 4.2 million tons (-3.3%)

crude oil and petroleum products - 87.2 million tons (+3.8%)

iron and manganese ore - 35.2 million tons (-0.2%)

ferrous metals - 25.5 million tons (+1.4%)

ferrous metal scrap - 4.7 million tons (-12.8%)

chemical and mineral fertilisers - 15.5 million tons (-4.1%)

cement - 9.5 million tons (+9%)

timber - 12.9 million tons (-10 7%)

grain and milled products - 7.6 million tons (+43.7%)

construction materials - 52.3 million tons (+20.7%)

non-ferrous ores and sulphur feedstock - 7.4 million tons (-8%)

chemicals and soda ash - 9.5 million tons (-4.7%)

industrial raw materials and moulded materials - 10.1 million tons (+4.5%)

containerised cargo - 6.7 million tons (+6.9%).

Freight turnover since the beginning of 2012 amounted to 736.6 billion tariff ton-kilometres, an increase of 6.7%. Freight turnover including empty wagon runs was 930.8 billion ton-kilometres, a rise of 6.1%.
