OREANDA-NEWS. May 04, 2012. TNK-BP held its first business ethics forum in which the Company brought together its internal experts from all Company units and functions to discuss the effectiveness of new policies and procedures being implemented by the Company to counteract misconduct and violations of ethical standards. Over 50 participants were present and made suggestions for the further development of the Ethics program being undertaken at TNK-BP, reported the press-centre of TNK-BP.

Among the topics discussed at the forum were specific examples and cases of managing conflicts of interest and counteracting corruption. Additionally, the participants looked at relations with suppliers and contractors, government agencies, as well as the task of introducing the Company’s principles and values at TNK-BP’s international subsidiaries. Guest speakers Elena Panfilova, Director of Anticorruption Research and Initiatives Center at Transparency International, and Anatoly Kucherena, a member of the Russian Presidential Council for Countering Corruption, shared their experiences and spoke about the specifics of ethics standards introduction in Russian companies, peculiarities of intra-corporate corruption, and key trends in Russian anticorruption law. Tim Langton and Vladas Stankevicius from BP also shared their experience in implanting similar programs.

Jonathan Muir, Chief Financial Officer, said, “TNK-BP is developing a multifaceted system to fight corruption and fraud. This is a challenging area in ethics, so open communication is one of our key tools. We make it clear that we will not tolerate any form of misconduct. Open conversation of existing issues, including at forums like this one, is essential in effectively promoting ethical behavior among our employees and countering corruption and other misconduct”.
