OREANDA-NEWS. May 03, 2012. FNT Consultants started implementing the Information, Education, and Communication Component of the Asian Development Bank Project on Issyk Kul Sustainable Development. This initiative will be implemented during January 2012 - September 2014, reported the press-centre of IBC.   

The Issyk–Kul Sustainable Development Project is the first phase of a long-term initiative of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) aimed to support environmental management and quality of service on sanitation and hygiene in the Issyk-Kul region. Executive agency of the project is the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic, implementing agency is the Issyk-Kul regional state administration.

The project’s goal is to improve water and sanitation infrastructure in three project cities of Karakol, Balykchy and Cholpon-Ata, improve and dispose solid waste, solve the problems of municipal landfills, improve sanitation and public water and sanitation facilities at schools, residential areas, hospitals, markets and other public places.

One of the important areas of the project activities is improvement of activities of the municipal enterprises – Vodokanal and Tazalyk – in three project cities to provide quality and efficient services to the public.

As part of the Information, Education, and Communication Component, various training courses and seminars among various target groups will be conducted. The strategy to enhance and engage people in solving the issues of hygiene and sanitation include awareness-increasing, educational and training activities, the involvement of public organizations in the implementation of the project activities on improvement of the infrastructure of the cities and preservation of the ecology of the Issyk-Kul region.

The main activities with various educational institutions of the cities are aimed at raising awareness and skills of safe behavior of schoolchildren and young people.

One of the activities of the component is development of cooperation with mass media to transfer information and to increase public awareness of the project. For more information about the project activities and the component, please visit http://isdp.kg.
