OREANDA-NEWS. May 02, 2012. The Government, strengthening Ukraine’s energy independence, implements projects for modernization and construction of power units at nuclear power plants. This was stressed by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov at the enlarged session of the Cabinet.

"The current year, the construction of 3 and 4 power units starts at Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant. There will be performed huge amount of work to extend the operation of the power unit at the South-Ukrainian NPP. It will be launched construction of the plant for the production of nuclear fuel. And while we perform well as large-scale and valuing works to improve the security of our nuclear power," Mykola Azarov informed about the current government's plans.

However, Prime Minister informed that yesterday the President of Ukraine inaugurated construction of safe shelter at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. "How many years had been talking about this but yesterday we switched from the talk to doing real work," said Mykola Azarov.

Prime Minister also announced that today it is carried out the modernization of nuclear power plants. According to Mykola Azarov, in the coming years need to modernize 10 power units. "For each power unit requires approximately 4 billion UAH," added Prime Minister.
