OREANDA-NEWS. May 02, 2012. In 2012, the Directorate of Railway Stations plans to reconstruct, modernise and commission nine station complexes: Leningrad, Paveletsky, Savyolovsky and Riga railway stations in Moscow, as well as stations in Samara, Saransk, Rybinsk, Atkarsk and Padunskie Porogi, reported the press-centre of RZD.
The work involved includes a whole series of measures, with the implementation of architectural, artistic, structural, functional, technological and engineering solutions aimed at improving energy efficiency and the operational performance of the station buildings and increasing the range of passengers services.
The Company’s investment in the development of Russia’s railways stations in 2012 will amount to more than 7 billion roubles, including about 6.59 billion roubles to reconstruct railway stations and 470 million roubles to install a comprehensive integrated security system.
The cost of the project "Reconstruction of Railway Stations" includes:

1.763 billion roubles for the reconstruction of 56 regional station complexes
112 million roubles for the modernisation of the platform management of the Directorate of Railway Stations (Yaroslavl-Main, Severobaikalsk, Rostov-Yaroslavl and stations in the Moscow hub)
182.9 million roubles for equipping station complexes with fire prevention alarms and automatic fire extinguishing systems
miscellaneous other work.
So far, 25 out of 348 of the station complexes under the Directorate of Railway Stations have been commissioned as part of the reconstruction and modernisation programme. Using funds allocated to capital repairs, Russian Railways has commissioned 24 stations in line with the Concept for the Efficient Use and Development of Railway Stations. 75 projects are currently being actively implemented.
The Concept for the Efficient Use and Development of Railway Stations provides for a phased execution of the work involved. The first phase is to make the stations attractive for investment and ensure they are in a technically sound condition and on their basis create modern transportation hubs. The second phase is to create multi-functional passenger transport and transfer hubs which are integrated into the urban environment.

As part of the Transport Strategy of the Russian Federation until 2020 and the Strategy for the Development of Railway Transport in the Russian Federation until 2030, Russian Railways has approved a Concept for the Efficient Use and Development of Railway Stations of the Directorate of Railway Station (a branch of Russian Railways) up to 2015 and a Comprehensive Programme for the Modernisation and Development of Railway Stations until 2015.
To date, the Concept and Programme have been developed and updated through 2030.
The purpose of the Concept is to create a modern, developed and efficient infrastructure at Russia’s railway stations on the basis of a comprehensive development of the network of railway stations and on the basis of the existing stations to create multi-station transport and transfer hubs.
Implementing the Concept will provide comprehensive passenger and station staff safety, reduce the level of risks from terrorism, improve service quality and control at the stations to the best global standards, improve the technical and technological reliability of the buildings, structures and engineering systems, substantially increase the commercial and investment potential of the train stations and provide barrier-free access for people with restricted degrees of mobility.
