OREANDA-NEWS. May 02, 2012. Vilnius hosts the 73rd meeting of the Airports Council International (ACI) Europe Policy Committee addressing the general changes in aviation security, passenger rights and the regulations for aircraft noise limitation. This is the first time when the meeting of ACI Europe is held in Lithuania. It has been organized at the initiative of Vilnius International Airport.  

New developments of the associations uniting the largest European national airports will be presented at the meeting of the ACI Europe Committee and the changes to the most relevant issues of European airports will be brought forward in the areas of regulation of night flights, the European Commission directives regarding the regulation of airports, the regulation of passenger rights and state support to airports.

Today, 40 members of the ACI Europe Policy Committee holding the right to participate in the committee work attend the meeting. The representatives of the largest European airports and the organisations uniting them arrived in Vilnius: Philippe Aliotti, President of the Union of French Airports, Lars Lindh, a representative of Swedavia AB with eleven Swedish airports under its umbrella, Robert Siddall, a representative of the Airport Operators Association (AOA) concerned with, and defending the interests of the British airports, representatives from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Geneva International Airport, Munich Airport, Athens International Airport, etc.

Airports Council International (ACI) has 577 members operating 1,689 airports in 179 countries and territories. ACI has six standing committees and two subcommittees mandated by the ACI Governing Board in order to provide guidance and council, and help shape the issues of aviation policy. ACI Europe provides the platform for pursuing a constructive cooperation with its members and international organisations to ensure strategic political changes in the aviation market. The representation of the interests of the members of ACI Europe in the dialogue with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is of particular importance. 
         
Vilnius Airport has been a member of ACI Europe since 1992. With the view of pursuing the ACI Europe standards for airport operation, Vilnius Airport is striving to become an innovative and modern airport. The specialists of Vilnius Airport participate in ACI Europe committees on a permanent basis: Policy, Environment, Aviation Security, Economics and Technical. In order to expand the cooperation opportunities with European airports and to pursue the membership obligations in ACI Europe, the meeting of the Aviation Security Committee will be held in May, while the meeting of the Safety and Technical Committee will take place in autumn this year.
