Mitsubishi Motors Announces Production Results for March 2012
OREANDA-NEWS. April 25, 2012. Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced global production, as well as domestic sales and export figures for March 2012 and for the 2011 fiscal year.
March 2012
Production: global total and Japan
Total global production for March 2012 came in at 120,599 units, 13.5 percent up over the same month last year and the first monthly increase in nine months since June 2011. Production volume in Japan at 57,712 units was 16.7 percent up, the first year-on-year increase in 9 months since June 2011. Passenger car output for the month at 52,481 units was 21.0 percent up while commercial vehicle output at 5,231 units was 13.5 percent down respectively over March 2010.
Sales in Japan
Vehicle sales in Japan in March 2012 totaled 21,615 units, 6.3 percent up on the same month last year and the third consecutive monthly year-on-year increase since December 2011. Sales of passenger cars at 17, 074 units were 14.4 percent up and sales of commercial vehicles at 4,541 units were 15.1 percent down respectively over March 2011. Registered vehicle sales volume at 9,832 units was 46.0 percent up on the same month last year. Minicar sales volume at 11,783 units was 13.4 percent down over March 2011.
Production overseas
Overseas production volume in March totaled 62,887 units, 10.7 percent up over the same month last year and the first consecutive monthly year-on-year increase since February 2012. By region, output in Asia at 54,417 units was 18.7 percent up, boosted chiefly by a 39.1 percent increase at MMTh (32,832 units) as it strives to catch up on production lost due to last year's flooding. Output in China at 10,753 units was 3.5 percent down year on year. In North America, output at 1,335 units was 68.5 percent down over the same month last year. In Europe, output at 2,455 units was 15.4 percent up. In South America output at 4,680 units was 6.8 percent up on March 2011.
Export shipments from Japan
Total exports from Japan of 45,023 units in March were 1.4 percent down on the same month in 2011, marking the seventh consecutive monthly year-on-year decrease since August 2011. Exports to Asia at 3,623 units were 49.7 percent down on March 2011. Shipments to North America at 4,978 units were 5.3 percent down. Exports to Europe at 19,920 units were 7.3 percent up over March 2011.

Total global production in fiscal 2011 came in at 1,128,550 units, 4.8 percent down over fiscal 2010 and the first decrease in annual volume in two years since fiscal 2009. Production volume in Japan at 585,860 units was 11.7 percent down, the first decrease in two years since fiscal 2009. Passenger car volume at 517,302 units was 12.3 percent down and commercial vehicle volume at 68,558 units was 6.4 percent down on fiscal 2010.
Sales in Japan
Vehicle sales in Japan in fiscal 2011 totaled 151,320 units, 7.4 percent down over fiscal 2010 and the first consecutive annual decrease. Passenger car sales of 113,754 units and commercial vehicle sales of 37,566 units were 5.3 percent and 13.3 percent down respectively on fiscal 2010. Registered vehicle sales volume at 60,439 units was 1.9 percent up while minicar sales of 90,881 units were 12.8 percent down respectively on fiscal 2010.
Production overseas
Overseas production volume in fiscal 2011 totaled 542,690 units, 3.9 percent up over last year and the second consecutive annual increase since fiscal 2009. By region, output in Asia at 447,433 units was 6.0 percent up, with a 10.9 percent increase (221,450 units) at MMTh in Thailand and a 7.5 percent decrease in China (107,808 units.) In North America, output at 31,114 units was 5.3 percent down on fiscal 2010. In Europe, output at 21,842 units was 19.5 percent down over last year. In South America, output at 40,290 units was 12.0 percent up on fiscal 2010.

Total exports from Japan in fiscal 2011 of 419,252 units were 11.2 percent down on the previous year, the first annual decrease in two years since fiscal 2009. By region, exports to Asia of 43,748 units were 27.1 percent down. Exports to North America of 65,621 units were 5.8 percent up over the previous year. Exports to Europe of 180,788 units were 3.2 percent down on fiscal 2010.
