OREANDA-NEWS. Due to lower payment safety standards being applied in the United States of America, starting 25 April Danske Bankas will restrict bankcard payments not confirmed by a PIN code. Payments to online stores will not be subject to restrictions, reported the press-centre of Danske Bankas.

"Considering the payment safety standards applied in the United States of America, which are lower than those in Europe, and statistics, which show that the most frequent fraudulent use of bank cards happens in the USA, we decided to strengthen the protection of card payments made in that country", Darius Jasinskis, director of Danske Bankas Product Management Department, said.

To avoid any inconvenience, clients travelling to the USA should notify the bank about their plans to use payment cards in that country. It is best to do so via Danske eBank or by calling the short number of the bank. After notification, no restrictions will apply during the selected time .
"Our aim is for clients to independently and conveniently manage the risk of making payments by card abroad. For this reason, we have implemented a tool on Danske eBank that allows clients to find out about payment restrictions in certain countries and manage them. It is a common practice in many countries", Jasinskis said.

Professionals at Danske Bankas monitor payments made in foreign countries daily and take additional protective measures in view of changes in the economic and political situation, fraudulent payments, or data thefts in a particular country. The list of countries where restrictions apply is regularly updated. Before travelling, it is advised to find out about any restrictions applied to card payments in the country of your destination. The list of countries where restrictions on card payments apply is provided on the Bank’s website or the client's e-bank.
