OREANDA-NEWS. April 20, 2012. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has taken part in he ceremony of opening of a new runway at the International Airport named after Heydar Aliyev and got acquainted with the course of reconstruction of existing and construction of new airport facilities.

President of Azerbaijan Airlines OJSC (AZAL) Jahangir Askerov informs that the length of the new runway is 4,000 m, width 75 m and floor space 325,500 sq m. Total length of the steering track is 3,800 m and its width 60 m. The area of the platform is 309,000 sq m.

Then the President of Azerbaijan familiarized himself with the course of reconstruction of existing and construction of new airport facilities.

The general contractor of the project, implemented by the AZAL order is Azwirt LLC. The project includes reconstruction of the existing air terminal, construction of a new terminal, completion of upgrade of the station square, the total area of which is 63,000 sq m, construction of a new building on flight control, replacement of underground and ground-based communications. After putting a new complex into operation it will be able to serve 3 million passengers a year.
