In its first meeting since the appointment of new Creditor Directors, the Board of Directors of “BTA Bank” JSC (the “Bank”) appointed Mr. Yerik Zhumakhanovich Balapanov as the Chairman of the Bank’s Management Board. A brief biography of Mr. Balapanov is set out at the end of this press release, reported the press-centre of BTA Bank.

“Mr. Balapanov’s experience in the banking business is important for our bank. Our shareholders and the Board of Directors believe that this appointment will help in bringing the restructuring of the bank’s indebtedness to a successful conclusion, stabilizing the Bank’s performance, reaching profitability and restoring the bank’s position in the financial services

Mr. Balapanov also commented: “Working as Chairman of the Management Board of BTA Bank is challenging and important for me. I will use all my experience and knowledge to achieve the goals set by the shareholders”.

Mr. Askhat Beisenbayev who acted as Chairman of the Management Board since January 2012 was appointed by the Board of Directors as First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board.

In addition, three Managing Directors, Ms. Dzhanna Akhmetzhanova (risk management), Ms. Natalya Loginova (financial unit) and Ms. Kunsulu Kapbasova (retail business) were appointed as Members of the Management Board by resolution of the Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors also accepted the resignation of Mr. Nikolai Varenko, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board.

Yerik Zhumakhanovich Balapanov was born on June 4, 1968 in Almaty.

In 1989 Mr. Balapanov graduated the Almaty Institute of National Economy with the degree of “Economist” and in 1997 graduated the Eurasian Market Institute with the degree of “Financier”.

Between 1995 -1997 Mr. Balapanov held the positions of head of currency transactions in Turanbank, Director of the Operational department and Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Bank TuranAlem CJSC.

In 1998 Mr. Balapanov was appointed as acting Chairman of the Management Board of “Almaty commercial bank” CJSC, Advisor to the Chairman of the Management Board of “Kazkommertsbank” OJSC and Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Nan Onimderi”.

From 2001 Mr. Balapanov served as Managing Director of “Kazakhstan Development Bank” CJSC.

In 2003 Mr. Balapanov was appointed as Member of the Management Board and Managing Director for corporate lending at “Kazkommertsbank” JSC.

From 2005 Mr. Balapanov served as a member of the Board of Directors of “Kazkommertsbank Kyrgyzstan” JSC. In February 2009 Mr. Balapanov was appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Grantum SPF” JSC, while also chairing the Board of Directors of Kazkommerts-Life Life Insurance Company JSC and Insurance Company Kazkommerts-Polis JSC.

On 11 April 2012 Mr. Balapanov was appointed as Member of the Board of Directors of BTA Bank, on behalf of National Welfare Fund “Samruk-Kazyna” JSC.
