Multifunctional Modular Measurement System Developed at TATNEFT

A multifunctional modular measurement system (MBIS) has been developed at the Company to increase the effectiveness of developing small deposits of TATNEFT through arranging control measurements of commercial oil production from the wellhead to the commercial oil transportation point, reported the press-centre of TATNEFT.
MBIS made by professionals of TATNEFT is of modular and portable design. The principle of its operation is based on the direct method of dynamic measurements of the gross mass of crude oil through mass flow meters.
With relative simplicity of the conceptual design and taking into account the respective characteristics this system is unique and there are no similar designs available in Russia.
The universal unit can be applied at any stage of production, transportation, treatment and delivery of the produced liquid. The main parameters of the universal unit are: flow range from 1.2 to 6,000 tons per day, liquid viscosity of 3 to 5000 cSt (at 200C), volume fraction of water from 0 to 99%, flow of associated petroleum gas from 24 to 2760 m3/day. The main advantage of this system is the ability to work in three modes: measuring the stock-tank oil (SIKN), measurement of crude oil (SIKNS) and measurement of crude oil containing free petroleum gas (IU).
When using the system as SIKN and SIKNS the working medium comes directly into the measuring line of crude oil bypassing the separator. Output signals of transducers are transmitted to respective outputs of the measurement controller, which converts them and calculates the gross weight of crude oil in accordance with the specified algorithm (entered in software), and indicates the information obtained on the display, and also sends the data to the output interface in accordance with the communication protocol.
When the system is used as IU the working medium is initially separated by the separator, which is part of the system, into the liquid (crude oil) and gas (petroleum gas) phases. After the separation the well production enters the measuring lines, while the measuring means that are part of the measuring lines, perform measurement of the separated well production and transmit the values to the controller, which processes the information received in accordance with predetermined algorithms (entered in its software), and indicates the information on the display, and also sends the data to the output interface in accordance with the communication protocol.
The system provides for multi-stage protection against unauthorized access to current data and settings (mechanical seals, individual passwords and software safeguards to protect files and databases, warning messages about corrupted or updated information, user actions logging.)
This unit has a fairly wide range of application not only at the facilities of TATNEFT, but also at the ones of the small oil companies in the Republic of Tatarstan. In particular, for short-term measurements of the quantity and quality (parameters) of the commodity (crude) oil at the facilities under construction and newly commissioned ones before putting into operation of the project equipment; for research (temporary) measurements at the sites where it is unprofitable to install fixed measuring equipment, etc. Application of this universal unit is also possible at the pilot operation sites for measurement of commercial oil in order to obtain MET benefits.
