OREANDA-NEWS. April 17, 2012. Test operation of the Space monitoring system of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine has allowed revealing hidden illegal deforestation almost throughout Ukraine.

This was started by Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mykola Zlochevskyi at the press club "In his own view" with regional media. According to the Minister only during last month with the help of satellite images it was revealed the economic damage from hidden felling by 65 million UAH.

Materials have been addressed to the prosecution, investigation continues. The Minister said that the cost of introducing the Space monitoring system from the state budget was 49 million UAH, adding that the amount so assessed fines in one month will cover budgetary expenses.

"Illegal cutting not only recorded in the forests, but also in the reserves and national parks. - said the Minister. – The Space monitoring system proves its effectiveness. "
