OREANDA-NEWS. April 13, 2012. Little more than two months after the start of oil production in Waimea, in the Campos Basin, OGX has already achieved the position of fifth largest oil producer in Brazil and number one among the private-sector national companies, according to the February Oil and Natural Gas Production Bulletin, released by the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).

During the first month of Extended Well Test (EWT) in Waimea, the average oil production in the first production well was 11.1 thousand barrels per day (bpd), considered an excellent result for the first month of a start-up production facility. The ranking of output per operator also released in the bulletin shows that OGX’s total production reached 11.6 thousand bpd including the production of natural gas, which is used at the production facility itself.

In the coming months, the company forecasts the connection of two or three new production wells, reaching production levels of between 40 and 50 thousand bpd by the end of 2012.

Also according to the ANP, Brazilian oil production in February was approximately 2.2 million bpd, an increase of nearly 7% relative to production in the same month in 2011. The State of Rio de Janeiro alone was responsible for almost 75% of domestic production.
