Tata Power Spread Message of Energy Conservation in Kolkata
OREANDA-NEWS. April 11, 2012. Recognising the need to curb wastage of energy, Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility, took the lead and started a unique nationwide initiative of energy conservation, through schoolchildren, called Tata Power Club Enerji.
Through this novel initiative, Tata Power Club Enerji has sensitised over 5,900 children across 10 schools in Kolkata. These children have further reached out to more than 12,800 people, thereby taking the total sensitisation figure to over 18,700 citizens. Together, these citizens have saved more than 20,000 units of electricity in the year. The club this year has made 490 new Energy Champions, 590 Energy Ambassadors and five mini Club Enerjis to spread this movement. The energy-saving programme has also been taken up as a project in various other schools of Kolkata.
Club Enerji has been active in Kolkata for two years and has sensitised more than 49,000 citizens, who have saved 54,000 units of energy and has 1,099 Energy Champions and 2,506 Energy Ambassadors till date.
Speaking on the occasion, Anil Sardana, managing director, Tata Power, said, “It’s heartening to note that Tata Power Club Enerji has become a successful movement in Kolkata and is playing a vital role in aiding young minds, who have been the core influencers in advocating energy and resource conservation. At Tata Power, we are committed to conserving energy and combating climate change."
