Baosteel Holds 1st Phase of Decision-Maker Training
OREANDA-NEWS. April 11, 2012. Group Corporation this year's first phase (11th) decision-maker training is held in Baosteel Shanghu Village. The theme of this year's decision-maker training is "competitive strategy", reported the press-centre of Baosteel.
Baosteel is in the critical period of the "second pioneering" and the strategy implementation task is very severe. This year's work focus is to accelerate iron and steel main industry industrial upgrading and structural adjustment, continue to push forward the healthy and harmonious development of diversified industries and actively explore new business. At present, Baosteel is faced with industry characteristics such as tough market conditions and tiny operating profit. How to gain competitive advantage and achieve the stated objectives in this context is an important issue which Baosteel business decision-makers at all levels are concerned with.
Harvard University Ph.D. in Economics, Professor Gao Miaofu is invited to speak in this training session. Professor Gao Miaofu was under the tutelage of Michael Porter, the father of global competition strategic management and has taught at world's top business schools such as MIT SLOAN School of Business and INSEAD. He also serves as visiting professor at China Europe International Business School and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His teaching and research area is competition and innovation and he has provided training or consulting service for IBM, GE, BP, Coca-Cola, Siemens, Motorola, PWC, TCL and Sinopec.
In the two-day training, with richful cases and exciting games Professor Gao Miaofu gives a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the three most important analytical models in the history of competition strategic management, that is, the application of Porter five forces model, value-added analysis model and value innovation analysis model in the enterprise competition strategic management. They provide good reference and inspiration for Baosteel to build and maintain a competitive advantage in the future and achieve the strategic objectives of the planning period.
Group Corporation vice chairman and Party secretary Liu Guosheng points out in training session summary that, at present, more and more domestic steel companies have been able to produce similar products with Baosteel and it means that the era of competition homogenization has come. Baosteel has entered the second pioneering period, enhancing the sense of competition and competitive ability is the most critical issues we face and it must be addressed. We must continue to accelerate the development pace in the competition.
Liu Guosheng says that mastering competitive strategy management is very important for business leaders. Professor Gao Miaofu's lectures contain both typical management theory and his own creative management ideas. Especially the "identifying unoccupied market gap" theory is worth studying.He also points out that any theory or method need to be constantly improved. We must observe and understand problems from multi angles and avoid one-sidedness, which is of great significance to the improvement and perfection of thinking and working methods.
