Ukraine Accuses Moldova of Unauthorized Siphoning of Electricity
OREANDA-NEWS. April 10, 2012. The system operator of Moldova, the state enterprise Moldelectrica, has siphoned about 30 mln. kWh of power from the united energy system of Ukraine, national energy company of Ukraine Ukrenego states.
Starting from April,1, 2012 commercial deliveries of Ukrainian power to Moldova have been suspended. This means that Moldelectrica has to cover power consumption in the Moldovan power system by increasing generating capacities of the Moldovan hydro power plant or other sources, Ukrenergo reminds.
All appeals and demands of Ukrenergo to Moldelectrica to meet obligations provided by the technical agreement have had non results, the Ukrainian company stresses. “Electricity siphoned by Moldova within the period when the negotiations are being held between the operators on signing the power supply contracts will be considered by the regional Customs of Kiev as a contraband”, the company warns.
As it was said early, on April 1, the contracts on power supply from Ukraine to Moldova expired. Power Trade, Ukrainian company offered Moldova a new, 20% higher price for electricity. Moldova did not accept the offer. The new contract is still being negotiated.
