OREANDA-NEWS. April 06, 2012. Cathay Pacific is celebrating the film industry’s most prestigious awards by featuring a selection of 2012 Academy Award® nominated and winning movies onboard throughout April, reported the press-centre of Cathay Pacific.

A special selection of 18 movies featuring this year’s winning and nominated Academy Award performances will be shown on Cathay Pacific’s StudioCX entertainment system*. These 18 Oscars specials are in addition to the normal offering of 100-plus movies, 500-plus television programmes and 888 CDs that passengers can enjoy onboard Cathay Pacific flights. A preview of these Oscars specials are available from a newly released trailer at the company’s website – www.cathaypacific.com.

In a year of incredibly strong performances from Hollywood’s A-list and international stars, the Best Performance in a Leading Role awards were hotly contested. Favourites included George Clooney’s vulnerable turn in The Descendants and Gary Oldman’s subtle yet stirring performance in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. But there can only be one winner and the Best Actor award went to French actor Jean Dujardin for The Artist.

For the best female lead look no further than The Iron Lady to see the acclaimed performance from Meryl Streep, who is the most nominated woman in Oscar’s history with 17 nominations. This year she won the Best Actress award for the first time since 1983 and now owns three of these coveted statuettes.

The Best Supporting Actress award went to Octavia Spencer for her role in The Help.

Alex McGowan, Cathay Pacific General Manager Product said: “Cathay Pacific is committed to offering the highest quality onboard entertainment for our passengers and this selection of Oscar-nominated or winning films highlights the best the movie industry has to offer.”
