Ukraine’s Berdyansk Port Throughput Drops 36.5% in Jan-Mar, 2012
OREANDA-NEWS. April 05, 2012. Cargo traffic passing through the sea port of Berdyansk (BMTP) in January-March plummeted 36.5 percent from the same period a year earlier to 331,800 tons, the port authorities statistics said.
In the reporting period outbound cargo totaled 317,200 tons, inbound goods reached 4,400 tons.
In March, Port of Berdyansk saw a 51-percent slump in traffic volume year-over-year to 100,700 tons.
The volume of export shipments in March totaled 99,300 tons, imports amounted to 1,300 tons. Monthly volume of coke rose, while shipment of coal and food decreased.
Berdyansk Commercial Seaport located on the coast of the Azov Sea is the only maritime transport hub in the Zaporozhye region of Ukraine. The Port transships export cargoes, largely scrap metal and metal products (wire, ingots, sheet metal, etc.). In 2011, Berdyansk port’s throughput rose 10.4% to 2.4 million tons.
