Turkmenistan and Afghanistan to Expand Intergovernmental Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. April 05, 2012. The President of Turkmenistan received Minister of Mines of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mr. Wahidullah Shahrani.
Expressing gratitude for the warm welcome, the guest congratulated the President of Turkmenistan on the re-election for a second term and conveyed the cordial greetings of President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai underlining that the head and people of Afghanistan were very grateful to the President of Turkmenistan for the policy of peace and constructive approach towards solution of the Afghan problematics that were reflected in important international initiatives aimed at settling the situation in Afghanistan, and reviving the national economic.
During the meeting the President of Turkmenistan and the Minister of Mines of Afghanistan exchanged their views on the prospects for further widening of the intergovernmental cooperation that had received new quality and dynamics of development in a number of priority vectors, including political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres in recent years.
The Turkmen leader and his guest paid particular attention to cooperation in the strategic fuel and energy complex, and in particular – implementation of the project on construction of the largest transnational gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) initiated by the Turkmen state. It was noted that this large-scale project, implementation of which would be of paramount significance for the whole region, had already drawn a wide international response and aroused keen interest among many foreign countries that expressed the readiness to take part in implementation of the project.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Turkmenistan attended the meeting.
