Tata IS Wins Golden Peacock Award for Corporate Social Responsibility
OREANDA-NEWS. April 05, 2012. Tata Interactive Systems (TIS), a pioneer and global leader in learning solutions, will be honoured with the Golden Peacock Award 2012 for corporate social responsibility initiatives, on April 25, 2012, at Hotel InterCon Dubai, in a specially organised ‘awards gala nite’. The award ceremony will be held during the Dubai Global Convention incorporating the 7th International Conference on Social Responsibility.
Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qutami and Dr Veerappa Moily, union minister for corporate affairs, Government of India, will jointly present the award in the presence of distinguished business leaders, jurists, academics, environmentalists, economists, legislators and policy makers.
TIS has been promoting the cause of learning disability (LD) since
One of the major activities taken up by TIS in this initiative is conducting the annual Tata Interactive Learning Disability Forum (TLDF) — a platform for national and international experts on LD to meet and share information about the latest findings in the field. Over the years, the TLDF has evolved as a forum — from spreading awareness about LD to urging the community to come together and help students with LD.
In 2008, TIS partnered with the LD Clinic at LTMG Hospital, Mumbai, India, to conduct a research on LD-certified students in Mumbai. The research indicated that children were not certified for LD soon enough. This finding became the basis of the 2009 forum — emphasising the importance of early detection and remediation of LD in children. Since 2010, the TLDF’s efforts have been directed towards creating LD awareness beyond Mumbai.
TLDF is also associated with the KEM LD clinic in Mumbai; Maharashtra Dyslexic Association, and nasen, a UK-based LD organisation for sharing knowledge on LD. TIS has designed and developed a book titled Brain Teasers that has puzzles and games to enable students with LD to grasp various concepts. Apart from the TLDF and LD support activities, TIS has also undertaken programmes to train teachers on LD awareness in 2011.
Sanjaya Sharma, chief executive officer, Tata Interactive Systems, said, “We are happy and proud to receive the prestigious Golden Peacock Award for our CSR initiatives. Being the world leader in innovative learning solutions, we took up a cause where we could apply our core skills for the benefit of affected sections of society. Tata Interactive Systems envisions an inclusive society which is not only aware of LD but one that will also come together to help children affected with LD achieve their maximum potential. All our efforts are directed towards this purpose."
