OREANDA-NEWS. April 05, 2012. According to the latest figures, 80.6 million passengers travelled on the Russian Railways’ infrastructure in March 2012, a 7.1% increase over the same month last year. Suburban passenger numbers amounted to 72.8 million (+7.8%), while long-distance passenger figures rose 1.3% to 7.8 million, reported the press-centre of RZD.

Passenger turnover in March 2012 amounted to 9 billion passenger-kilometres, up 3.4% over the same month in 2011.

During January-March 2012, 223.1 million passengers travelled on the Russian Railways’ infrastructure, a 9.1% increase over the same period in 2011. Suburban passengers amounted to 199.3 million, an increase of 10%, while long-distance passengers were up 1.9% to 23.8 million.
Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways’ network during the first quarter of 2012 increased by 4.5% compared to last year and amounted to 27.3 billion passenger-kilometres.
