OREANDA-NEWS. April 05, 2012. “Passing amendments to the draft law “On Burial and Funeral Services” proposed by FAS Russia will improve the quality of services in the sector of ceremonial services and will encourage fair competition in this field”, said the Head of FAS Department for Control over Social Sphere and Trade, Timophei Nizhegorodtsev, at a Round Table organized by “Moskovsky Komsomolets” Publishing Housel, reported the press-centre of FAS Russia.

According to the Head of FAS Department, there are numerous problems associated with unfair conduct of sector participants.

“Close nature of information of this market is a separate problem”, pointed out Mr. Nizhegorodtsev. “General public does not get full information about all providers of such services”.

The package of amendments to the draft law “On Burial and Funeral Services” clarifies the powers of local self-government bodies and introduces self-regulation on this market, which in their turn shall form the standard of funeral services.

“Private cemeteries can be a good way out of the existing situation”, said Mr. Nizhegorodtsev. “It will raise burial services to the whole new level”.

Timophei Nizhegorodtsev paid special attention to shadow activities in the ceremonial sector, which is not regulated by any rules and, in its turn, prevents healthy competition. “We shall remove these activities from the shadow market and make them public”, stated the speaker.
