Kawasaki Delivered First 7.4-MW Class Gas Turbine Cogeneration System
OREANDA-NEWS. April 04, 2012. Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that Kawasaki Gas Turbine Europe GmbH (KGE), Kawasaki’s Frankfurt-based gas turbine sales and service subsidiary for the European market, has delivered a 7.4-MW class gas turbine cogeneration system to the Agfa-Gevaert Group, headquartered in Morstel, Belgium, which is one of the world’s leading imaging and information technology companies.
The GPB80D gas turbine power generation system has been installed at Agfa-Gevaert’s Major Production Plant in Morstel, Belgium. The system consists of a natural gas-fueled gas turbine power generator, driven by a Kawasaki-developed M7A-03D Kawasaki Gas Turbine, and a waste-heat recovery boiler. The power and heat generated by the system will supply production facilities at the plant, resulting in an overall efficiency rate of more than 90%. Manufacture of the M7A-03D gas turbine will be performed by Kawasaki, while delivery of the boiler and auxiliary equipment as well as installation and operational testing will be conducted by KGE.
Development of the GPB80D gas turbine power generation system was based on the earlier GPB60D and GPB70D, both of which have already earned outstanding reputations in the market. It utilizes the latest proven technologies to achieve the highest levels of thermal efficiency in the world. The GPB80D for this project is the fifth to be delivered in Europe, and the first in Belgium.
Equipped with a Kawasaki’s DLE combustion system newly developed to achieve low NOx emissions, the M7A-03D gas turbine for the Agfa-Gevaert system also guarantees the lowest levels of NOx emissions in the world (15 ppm at 15% O2).
The current order is further testament to the superior environmental performance and lifecycle cost of the Kawasaki’s GPB80D gas turbine power generation system. As demonstrated by its GPB80D’s superior overall efficiency and a proven track-record of deliveries worldwide, Kawasaki has the technological expertise to further expand the market for gas turbine power generators to increase its share of the European market. With local sales offices in not only in Europe but also the Americas, South and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and the Far East, Kawasaki will continue to actively develop its business the world over.
