OREANDA-NEWS. March 28, 2012. Key steel producers in Hebei have managed to reduce comprehensive energy consumption of per ton steel to 602.43 kg of standard coal, saving 248,400 tons of standard coal a year.

With the extensive improvements in energy performance across the five main procedures including sintering, coking, iron-melting, steel-making and rolling, 90 percent of local producers are operating with a minus energy consumption rate.

Last year the province shut down backward facilities with total production capacity of 8.6 million tons in the iron-melting and 15.50 million tons in the steel-making operations.
