OREANDA-NEWS. March 27, 2012. Tata Steel's effort has always been to empower Women and Rural Youth for their  development and growth....as part of its affirmative action programme.

In line with this effort Tata Steel sponsored two Tribal Youth for undertaking an  Expedition to Mt. Aconcagua (22, 960 ft) in Mendoza , Argentina...alongwith Ms  Premlata Agrawal :

1 Two Tribal Youth of Jharkhand are---

a) Binita Soren (female) 24  years from Kesorsora Village in Rajnagar Block, who has completed Basic and  Advance Mountaineering Courses with A Grade, participated in the Karakoram 18381 ft Expedition and climbed Mt. Stok  Kangri 20305 ft under Ms Bachendri Pal and also participated in Tata Steel  sponsored Mt. Saser Kangri (24 331 ft) Expdn. In Karakorams. She was a member  of the Indian Women's First Thar Desert Expedition in 2007 – a camel Safari  across the International Border from Bhuj in Gujarat to  Wagah in Punjab traversing the entire Thar  Desert covering over 2000 km one of  the  most inhospitable places on earth.  The  Indian Women's Expedition is recognized  by Limca Book as a National Record.

b) Meghlal Mahato (male) 29  years of Paharpur village Rajnagar Block who has completed both Basic and  Advance Mountaineering Courses with A Grade and climbed Mt. Stok Kangri 20305 ft under Ms Bachendri Pal.

As part of  the Tata Steel sponsored Mt. Saser Kangri (24 331  ft) Expedition in Karakorams he reached  the Summit on Aug. 8, 2011. Saser  Kangri is considered one of the difficult peaks in India.

2.  Ms Premlata Agrawal after scaling  Mt. Everest  has set her Mission  for  climbing   the 7 Summits viz. the highest peaks of all the 7  Continents.  She has already climbed two  peaks in two continents i.e. Mt. Everest in (Asia) and Mt. Killimanjaro in Africa.

ALL THREE PREMLATA, MEGHALAL AND  BINITA REACHED THE SUMMIT OF MT. ACONCAGUA. They are returning on Feb. 17th.

Binita and Meghlal are being prepared to take on the Ultimate Challenge viz. Mt. Everest in April-May  2012, which will also be sponsored by  Tata Steel.

After Mt. Aconcagua - the highest  peak of South America for Ms Premlata  the  other Highest Peaks which remain are Mt. Denali in North America, Mt. Vinson in  Antartica, Mt. Elbrus in Europe and Carstenze in Australasia.

The total expedition cost of Mt. Aconcagua , amounting to nearly Rs 11  lakhs, is borne by Tata Steel.
