OREANDA-NEWS. March 27, 2012. Six projects of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) have bagged the prestigious National Awards for Meritorious Performance in Power Sector instituted by the Government of India for the year 2009-10 & 2010-11. POWERGRID received three Gold Shields and two Silver Shields for Transmission System Availability and one Silver Shield for Early Completion of Transmission Project.

 Shri Sushilkumar Shinde, Union Minister of Power presented the awards to Shri R.N.Nayak, CMD, POWERGRID and Executive Directors of the respective Regions at a function held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on 22.03.2012. On this occasion Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power Shri K. C. Venugopal, Shri P. Uma Shankar, Secretary (Power) and other senior officers from Ministry of Power were present.

 As many as 26 organisations including generating companies and transmission companies from Public Sector, Private Sector and State Utilities were honoured on the occasion for excellent performance shown by them in their respective areas during the period mentioned above. National Awards to power utilities for meritorious performance have been instituted by the Ministry of Power, GoI to inculcate competitive spirit and to motivate the power utilities to achieve higher levels of performance.
