OREANDA-NEWS. March 23, 2012. The expansion project of the Tanjung Jati B Coal-Fired Power Plant (TJB) Units 3 and 4 has been completed and a celebration ceremony was held on February 6, 2012. The TJB project was developed by Sumitomo Corporation in the Republic of Indonesia, and the plant has been operated by a state company under a lease agreement since 2006. The recent completion ceremony took place at the TJB site, where a host of people involved, primarily representatives from project partner companies, the Indonesian government and local organizations with a direct interest in the project, as well as the president of Sumitomo Corporation, attended to celebrate the project's success, which was achieved through close cooperation between government, industry, and local community segments.

Generally, completing construction of a power plant on schedule is an extremely rare occurrence. To overcome this sector-specific problem, all participants in the TJB expansion project from Japan and Indonesia made utmost efforts to expedite their work, resulting in completion of the project and commencement of the electricity supply three months earlier than planned. This impressive feat was driven by our shared wish to meet the urgent needs of Indonesians for a stable power supply system, which creates essential infrastructure to support Indonesia's rapidly growing economy. The February 6 event was celebrated with heartfelt words of appreciation and expectations for our contribution to the TJB project, as expressed by scores of Indonesian attendees.

On the day of the celebration, a special booth was set up adjacent to the ceremony venue to introduce part of the CSR activities TJB conducts with the goal of becoming a valued member of the local community. As major examples of these efforts, a library van and organic fertilizers were put on display. In support of Jepara Regency's Green City Project, TJB financially assists the local government's project to collect waste from food markets, which is used to make organic fertilizers that are distributed to local markets at low prices.

Sumitomo Corporation has been involved in dozens of infrastructure and other types of projects, including the TJB program in Indonesia. The Company was provided with an opportunity to visit Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who acknowledged Sumitomo Corporation's long years of contribution to his country and emphatically referred to Sumitomo Corporation as "a long-term, important friend of Indonesia." In a bid to live up to the President's expectations, we will continue our commitment to supporting the program's development within our business. Building on these achievements, we will step up our efforts aimed at securing a stable electricity supply in many other parts of the world, in cooperation with local and global partners.
