PM Appreciates Switzerland Contribution to Latvian Development
OREANDA-NEWS. March 23, 2012. Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis expressed gratitude to Ambassador of Switzerland Gabriela Nutzi Sulpizio for the assistance amounting to more than LVL 33 million provided by Switzerland to different projects in Latvia since 2007. The Ambassador paid a farewell visit.
The Switzerland’s program is being successfully implemented -– the projects aimed at modernization of courts have been implemented, the support has been provided to the development of youth initiatives in distant regions, NGOs have received support, the scholarship fund was established, as well as other improvements have been made. The Prime Minister particularly emphasized the activities in local governments as the result of which transportation of pupils is provided.
This year, the last project agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the government of Switzerland on the support to fire safety measures in local government general educational institutions was concluded. The Ambassador expressed gratification for the project and the quality of funding administration in Latvia, as a result of which the opportunity has been found to implement this last project and the support program was successfully concluded.
During the meeting the sides also discussed the objective of Latvia to join the euro area in 2014 and its readiness to continue the development of bilateral political dialogue at the highest level. The Prime Minister highly appreciated the Ambassador’s contribution to strengthening the cooperation between Latvia and Switzerland in the area of culture and education during her term of office. G.N.Sulpizio fulfilled the duties of the Ambassador of Switzerland to Latvia from December 2008.
